In-game description
Torch given to protectors of the Erdtree. Its flames are bestowed with a special incantation which allows the bearer to see assassins cloaked in veils. Furnished on behalf of the Erdtree and the Grace-Given Lord such that a Night of Black Knives will never come again.
Skill
Thrust torch forward to set foes ablaze. This skill is especially effective against foes who are weak to fire.
Where to find
Altus Plateau
Starting Site of Grace: Hermit Merchant's Shack
Before you go
- Have 7,000 runes.
- Visit during the day to find the merchant.
- Reach Outer Wall Battleground grace in the northern Capital Outskirts. Go east beside the wall to the stairs, then turn sharply northwest onto the rising path.
- Follow that path to Hermit Merchant's Shack on the higher ground inside the outer wall. Activate its grace and speak to the merchant during daylight.
- Buy Sentry's Torch for 7,000 runes. If the Bell Bearing Hunter appears at night, return in daylight and reload; defeating it or entering Leyndell is not required to buy the torch.
Notes
- Reveals nearby invisible Black Knife Assassins while equipped in an active hand. This is particularly useful in Ordina's evergaol and against the hidden assassin in Sage's Cave.
- The revealing effect works without meeting its attack requirements and without reinforcing it. You can leave it in the active off-hand slot and two-hand your other weapon; it still works while on your back.
- It makes the assassin visible rather than harmless. You still need to avoid the grab and other attacks, and the effect does not remove Ordina's evergaol puzzle.
- Requires 15 Strength, eight Dexterity and 15 Faith for normal use, and weighs five. Strength gives stronger physical scaling than Dexterity; Faith improves its separate Holy damage.
- Torch Attack costs no FP. The special flame deals Holy rather than ordinary Fire damage, and this torch cannot use a replacement Ash of War or affinity.
- Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Grease and weapon enchantments cannot be applied; upgrades improve combat damage rather than unlocking its visibility effect.
- A simple Torch, Lantern or Ghostflame Torch does not replace its assassin-revealing effect. Buy it for 7,000 runes from the northern Capital Outskirts merchant.
