Starting Site of Grace: Castle Watering Hole
Before you go
- To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
- Collect the Stone-Sheathed Sword in Fog Rift Catacombs for this altar arrangement.
- Bring a Hefty Furnace Pot to wake the golem blocking the entrance.
- To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
- For the main Shadow Keep approach, defeat the Golden Hippopotamus and activate Main Gate Plaza grace. Follow the left-hand route through the keep to the upper courtyard lined with burning boats. Watch for the Militiamen hiding beside them.
- At the southeastern end of the boat courtyard, find the ladder beside the outer railing and descend to the water. Walk behind the waterfall and take the second ladder down to the painting room.
- Strike the false wall beside the Domain of Dragons painting. Follow the revealed passage and rest in the stone coffin to arrive at Castle Watering Hole.
- Go southeast to Ruins of Unte. Climb the neighboring ruined building so you can throw a Hefty Furnace Pot into the basket of the dormant Furnace Golem blocking the entrance.
- Once it wakes and moves, get past it into the flower-covered courtyard. Approach the altar on the right and raise the Stone-Sheathed Sword to turn it into the Sword of Darkness. You can also bring the Sword of Light back here to change it into Darkness.
Notes
- Requires 14 Strength, 11 Dexterity and 24 Faith, and weighs 4. Strength provides the strongest Physical scaling, Dexterity is weaker, and Faith improves Holy damage.
- Has the same ordinary damage, scaling and requirements as its opposite form. The skill and appearance are the important differences.
- Darkness costs 30 FP and sends a rotating sweep of darkness around you. Despite its appearance, the skill deals Holy damage, improving through Faith and upgrades.
- A successful hit makes the target take 20% more Holy damage for 60 seconds. This is an incoming damage multiplier, rather than subtracting 20 percentage points from its listed negation.
- The vulnerability is applied after the hit. The first application does not retroactively strengthen itself, while later Holy attacks can benefit.
- Its enemy debuff competes with effects such as the moon spells, Shriek of Milos and Soul Stifler. Do not expect every defense debuff to stack; Frostbite is a separate effect.
- Sword of Light's self-buff can coexist because it acts on the attacker instead. Their combined Holy multipliers give 44% more damage against enemies, or 38% against other players, before other bonuses.
- Shard of Alexander improves the damaging skill, and Holy bonuses strengthen its Holy damage. They do not turn its fixed vulnerability into a stronger percentage. Godfrey Icon does not apply because it cannot be charged.
- This is separate from the Darkness incantation. It is an offensive Holy skill and does not provide that spell's enemy-distraction behavior.
- With a Fog Rift first pickup, Unte is the Darkness altar. If the initial sword was taken at Unte or Rauh, return to Fog Rift's treasure altar for Darkness.
- This is a transformed Stone-Sheathed Sword. Changing between Light and Darkness preserves reinforcement and does not create a spare weapon.
- The transformation cannot restore Stone-Sheathed Sword during the same journey. Store spare copies before changing forms if you want to preserve different versions.
- Uses Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Its skill and affinity are fixed, and grease or weapon enchantments cannot be applied.
