Remains of the countless heroes he has devoured writhe upon the surface of this blade.

Raise the sacred sword aloft to set it ablaze with blasphemous flames, then bring it down to fire off a forward blast. The flames steal HP from those they touch.

Starting Site of Grace: Audience Pathway

  1. At Scenic Isle in southern Liurnia, head east toward the stone gazebo near the telescope. Speak to Rya about her stolen necklace before entering Volcano Manor, which ends this early meeting.
  2. Ride northwest across the shallow lake to Boilprawn Shack. Talk to Boggart beside the cooking pot, ask for the necklace and choose Deal to open the purchase.
  3. Buy Rya's Necklace for 1,000 runes. Buying it keeps Boggart alive and opens his prawn shop; purchase at least one Boiled Prawn if you want his later move and crab stock.
  4. Return to Rya in the gazebo and give her the necklace. Finish her dialogue to receive Volcano Manor Invitation.
  5. Reach Altus Plateau through the Grand Lift of Dectus with the medallion halves from Fort Haight and Fort Faroth, or by defeating Magma Wyrm Makar at Ruin-Strewn Precipice. Rya waits at the top of Dectus for lift arrivals, or by Lux Ruins near Erdtree-Gazing Hill for the precipice route. Speak to her and accept her hand to travel to Volcano Manor.
  6. If you have not entered the dungeon yet, speak to Tanith in Volcano Manor and accept her invitation to get the Drawing-Room Key. Open the first room on the right in the corridor. Roll into or strike the illusory wall in the back-right corner to reveal a passage. Follow it downstairs, past the snails and Bloodhound Knight, to the Prison Town Church grace.
  7. Leave the church through its large doors and take the path downhill to the right. Follow the outer wall, watching for the Abductor Virgin. When the path splits at the stairs, cross the bridge toward the large building guarded by a Man-Serpent. Its front door is locked, so go around the right side to the ladder.
  8. From the roof, go south and look over the western edge for the balcony with an open doorway and lantern. Drop onto it and enter the room with the Omenkiller.
  9. Clear the Omenkiller, leave through the southern door and climb the ladder on the left. Follow the balcony left and drop onto the adjoining roof. Continue through the side entrance into the building and open its main door as a shortcut.
  10. Go southeast down the interior stairs. At the bottom, follow the corridor into the room on the right and activate Guest Hall grace.
  11. Return to the lower corridor and leave through its large northeastern door. Climb down the ladder on the right to the lava-side ground.
  12. Use the solid ground and the sloping roof of the building east of you to cross toward the northeastern rooftops. Follow the rampart toward the western building, then turn southeast to the stairs guarded by a Man-Serpent.
  13. At the top, use the cage lift that takes you upward toward the temple. The other lift descends toward an optional Magma Wyrm and is not the route to the Godskin Noble.
  14. Pass the Blackflame Monk on the upper stairs. Before entering the temple, turn left and activate the bridge mechanism to raise the shortcut back toward Prison Town Church.
  15. Enter Temple of Eiglay and defeat the Godskin Noble. Activate Temple of Eiglay grace afterward. Rykard is not required for this part of the dungeon.
  16. Take the lift on the right inside Temple of Eiglay and go out onto its upper balcony. Drop over the barrier onto the solid ground beside the lava rather than into the pool.
  17. Follow the narrow volcanic path past the fire slugs. Before the corpse at its end, drop left onto the lower ledge, then follow it around and uphill toward the larger lava pool.
  18. Cross toward the western building, avoid the Abductor Virgin, and enter through the open window around its right side. The ladder inside descends to the prison and is not needed for Rya or the ashes.
  19. Open the forward door, pass the Man-Serpent and climb the stairs on the right. Use the doorway on the left at the top to reach the shortcut lift.
  20. Activate the shortcut lift back toward Temple of Eiglay, then return to the upper route. Continue along the main stairs past the nobles, which can release poison when killed, and the Man-Serpents.
  21. Enter the large hall and deal with the magma-whip serpent before moving north. Go through the eastern doorway into the room where nobles kneel around a corpse and Man-Serpents can rush down the stairs.
  22. Collect Man-Serpent Ashes from the corpse if wanted, then climb the eastern stairs. Clear the large-headed staff carrier above and use the northern doorway to reach the sending gate.
  23. Use the sending gate to reach Audience Pathway and activate its grace. Finish the manor contracts, Rya's conversations and other NPC rewards you want before defeating Rykard.
  24. Enter the fog into the God-Devouring Serpent's arena. Before approaching the serpent, turn left near the entrance and collect the glowing Serpent-Hunter. The boss does not have to be defeated to take it.
  25. Equip the spear before advancing. It has no attribute requirements and its normal attacks gain extended wind blades during this encounter. You can leave after collecting it to upgrade the weapon before returning.
  26. Defeat the God-Devouring Serpent, then defeat Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy in the second part of the same encounter. His remembrance is an automatic reward.
  27. If the Red Letter assignment is already available, Juno's contract and its table reward can still be completed afterward. This exception does not preserve every unfinished manor quest.
  28. Return to Finger Reader Enia at Roundtable Hold and exchange Remembrance of the Blasphemous for Blasphemous Blade. No additional runes are required.

Notes

  • Normal attacks deal physical and Fire damage. Strength and Dexterity give equal physical scaling, while Faith improves Fire. The skill's flame wave scales with Faith and weapon upgrades, so a build focused on Taker's Flames has a different priority from one focused on ordinary sword attacks.
  • Taker's Flames costs 30 FP. The downward sword hit and the travelling flame wave can both connect at close range. The blade contact uses normal weapon damage, while the wave uses its Fire damage rather than the physical damage added by Strength or Dexterity.
  • A flame-wave hit restores 10% of your maximum HP plus 150 HP. With 2,000 maximum HP, that is 350 HP. It does not require killing the target, and the amount uses your maximum HP rather than the enemy's.
  • Separately, a nearby creature's death restores 4% of your maximum HP plus 40 while the sword is held in an active hand. With 2,000 maximum HP, that is 120 HP. You do not have to land the killing blow with this blade.
  • The nearby-death healing can combine with distinct effects such as Taker's Cameo, Serpent-God's Curved Sword and Greathorn Hammer. It also works when this sword is on your back while you two-hand the weapon in your other active hand.
  • Shard of Alexander improves Taker's Flames. Talisman of the Dread gives its eligible magma attack 15% more damage in PvE or 10% in PvP, while Fire bonuses improve the flame wave. Godfrey Icon does not apply because the skill is not charged.
  • The current flame wave no longer has its old automatic knockdown. It can still interrupt suitable enemies, but do not rely on older strategies that assume every hit throws them to the floor.
  • Requires 22 Strength, 15 Dexterity and 21 Faith, weighs 13.5 and has a normal critical rating of 100. The healing does not add bleed or a black-flame health drain to ordinary hits.
  • Its skill and affinity are fixed, and grease or weapon enchantments cannot be applied. Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10.
  • Enia exchanges Remembrance of the Blasphemous for this sword with no extra rune payment. Rykard's Rancor is the other choice. Duplicate the remembrance to obtain both, with each reward limited to one purchase per Journey.
