Starting Site of Grace: Bestial Sanctum
Before you go
- Give Gurranq one Deathroot.
- An early Deathroot comes from the Tibia Mariner in Summonwater Village, in northeastern Limgrave. Defeat the boat-riding boss among the flooded ruins to receive it.
- Speak to D about the Deathroot to have the waygate marked on your map, or find it yourself in the bushes behind the Third Church of Marika in eastern Limgrave.
- Use that waygate to reach Bestial Sanctum. Go through the large doors behind your arrival point and activate the grace inside.
- Speak to Gurranq at the far end of the hall and hand over the Deathroot. His first reward is Clawmark Seal, together with the Beast Eye.
Notes
- Strength and Faith contribute equally to its casting scaling at equal stat values. At +25, 45 Strength and 45 Faith give 282 incantation scaling, compared with 217 at 80 Strength and 10 Faith. Both examples use 90 combined points in the two casting stats, without a two-handing bonus.
- Increases damage from bestial incantations by 10%. Bestial Sling and Stone of Gurranq are examples of the damaging spells this bonus is intended for; a beast-themed Ash of War is not an incantation.
- The Strength contribution does not improve every kind of incantation in the same way. Direct healing and weapon enchantments use the Faith contribution to incantation scaling, so the full displayed scaling can overstate its usefulness for those spells.
- The bestial damage bonus does not increase Bestial Vitality's healing. That spell's recovery is separate from an attack-power bonus.
- Gurranq gives the seal for the first Deathroot you hand over. It has No Skill and uses Smithing Stones, up to +25.
- Two-handing the seal applies the 50% effective Strength bonus to its Strength-based casting contribution. It does not multiply your Faith or the final spell damage by 50%.
- The 10% bestial bonus works while the seal is held in the other hand, even if a different seal casts the spell. It remains 10% at every upgrade level.
- Its bonus stacks multiplicatively with Cinquedea or a second Clawmark Seal for 21% more bestial spell damage. Both bonuses must be active; an unequipped second copy contributes nothing.
- Strength and Faith contribute to damaging incantations of other families too. The special 10% bonus is limited to damaging bestial incantations and does not improve a beast-themed weapon skill.
- Its low requirements are 4 Strength and 10 Faith, and it weighs 1.5. Raising Strength does not satisfy a spell's Faith requirement.
- It cannot cast sorceries, and its physical punch is separate from its casting scaling. No Skill lets the other hand's weapon skill remain available.
- Killing Gurranq is unnecessary for the seal. His first Deathroot delivery provides it with Beast Eye, while later deliveries unlock separate spells and equipment.
