Hefty Oil Pot

Pot

Coats the enemy for up to 30 seconds. The next qualifying fire hit deals 50% more fire damage, or 65% more with the hefty pot, and consumes the coating. Other damage types do not gain this bonus. Applying oil again does not multiply another oil coating. The calculation requires the actual target contact and confirmation of the consuming fire hit.

Where to find

Crafting after collecting Greater Potentate's Cookbook [3]

Scadu Altus

Starting Site of Grace: Scadu Altus, West

Before you go

  • Crafting Kit
  • Greater Potentate's Cookbook [3]
  • Empty Hefty Cracked Pot
  • Ingredients for one pot: three Whiteflesh Mushrooms and three Dewgems
  1. From Highroad Cross in Scadu Altus, go west toward the water and waygate. Follow the water's northern edge, then continue west to Scadu Altus, West grace on the cliff overlooking Fog Rift Fort.
  2. Look immediately northwest below the grace for the rock ledges leading to the fort's tower. Drop onto each visible ledge and then the tower, rather than jumping directly into the ravine.
  3. Follow the rampart past the spearmen and through the room with two waiting soldiers. Keep away from the explosive barrels while they attack; a ranged Fire attack can set off barrels from a safer distance.
  4. Beyond that room, deal with the soldier facing away on the right. Look down to the narrow wooden bridge and take the stairs toward it. Draw the bridge soldiers up to the rampart if the firebombs make the crossing unsafe.
  5. Cross the wooden bridge to the small cliff and loot the corpse at its far end for Greater Potentate's Cookbook (3). This bridge is separate from the higher stone bridge toward Black Knight Garrew. Fighting Garrew is unnecessary for the book.
  6. Buy the Crafting Kit from Kale at the Church of Elleh if Item Crafting is unavailable.
  7. Bring an empty Hefty Cracked Pot and three Whiteflesh Mushrooms and three Dewgems. Open Item Crafting outside combat and make Hefty Oil Pot.

Notes

  • Coats a target in oil so the next Fire hit deals 65% more Fire damage. The oil lasts for up to 30 seconds, and that first Fire hit consumes it. It is preparation for a follow-up attack, rather than a Fire attack on its own.
  • For a weapon that deals both physical and Fire damage, the oil increases the Fire portion. It does not multiply the physical part or turn a non-Fire attack into a Fire attack.
  • Ordinary Oil Pot and Roped Oil Pot give a smaller 50% bonus. Oil-Soaked Tear gives a separate weaker oil effect. These oil coatings do not stack, so use one oil effect before the Fire attack instead of expecting several oils to multiply together.
  • Costs no FP. Its effect does not scale with your weapon upgrades or become stronger with Faith; the important part is the Fire hit you use afterward.
  • Greater Potentate's Cookbook (3) unlocks the recipe. Each craft needs three Whiteflesh Mushrooms, three Dewgems and one empty Hefty Cracked Pot. Throwing the item frees its container, but spends the ingredients.
  • You can carry up to 10 if you have enough free Hefty Cracked Pots. Other hefty recipes compete for the same containers. This recipe cannot use an ordinary Cracked Pot or Ritual Pot.
