In-game description

Greatsword patterned after the black steeple of the Helphen, the lampwood which guides the dead of the spirit world.

The lamplight is similar to grace in appearance, only it is said that it can only be seen by those who met their death in battle.

Swing the sword to bathe its blade in ghostflame. The ghostflame adds magic damage to attacks, and also has a bitterly cold bite.

Mountaintops of the Giants

Starting Site of Grace: Snow Valley Ruins Overlook

Before you go

  • Reach the Mountaintops of the Giants.
  1. After defeating Morgott, use the Rold Medallion at Grand Lift of Rold to enter the Mountaintops. Follow the route through Zamor Ruins, along the narrow mountain bridge and past the early ruins toward Snow Valley Ruins Overlook.
  2. From Snow Valley Ruins Overlook, travel northwest toward the graveyard and cliff above Castle Sol. Look for the Tibia Mariner in its small boat, with giant skeletons appearing nearby.
  3. Defeat the Mariner itself to receive Helphen's Steeple. The giant skeletons it summons are not the weapon's source.
  4. The reward is guaranteed from the Mariner. Killing the enormous skeleton apparitions without defeating the small boat does not finish this encounter.

Notes

  • Requires 19 Strength, 10 Dexterity and 22 Intelligence and weighs 11.5. Strength supplies most physical scaling, Dexterity contributes very little, and Intelligence improves its magic portion.
  • Ruinous Ghostflame costs 20 FP and coats the sword for 60 seconds, adding 110 magic attack power and 80 Frostbite buildup. The coating is the source of its Frostbite; the unbuffed sword has none.
  • The extra 110 magic attack power and 80 Frostbite are fixed. Reinforcement and attributes improve the underlying sword damage, while Intelligence and Arcane do not increase this fixed frost addition.
  • The activation swing can strike an enemy close to the blade. It does not release a ranged ghostflame trail like Death's Poker or the transferable Ghostflame Call.
  • Ghostflame deals magic damage despite looking like fire. Fire-only bonuses do not strengthen the coating, and its magic damage does not remove Frostbite the way an actual fire hit does.
  • Upgrade with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. The skill and affinity are fixed, and outside grease or a weapon enchantment cannot be applied. Its own coating is not permission to add another one on top.
  • Shard of Alexander can improve the damaging skill swing but does not raise the fixed coating or strengthen every later ordinary attack. Godfrey Icon gives no bonus because the skill cannot be charged.
  • Its Mariner is on the high ground above Castle Sol. The nearby Death Rite Bird is a different encounter and awards Death Ritual Spear.
