In-game description

Staff embedded with sullied amber, said to be a very part of the Prince of Death. Enhances death sorceries.

LocationTower northeast of The Nameless Eternal City

Deeproot Depths

Starting Site of Grace: The Nameless Eternal City

Before you go

  • Reach Deeproot Depths.
  1. Defeat Starscourge Radahn at the Radahn Festival in Redmane Castle. His defeat opens the starfall crater in Limgrave; it is not the sealed Siofra River overlook reached from the Four Belfries.
  2. Return to the Mistwood near Fort Haight and find the new crater marked by floating rocks. Use the descending ledges and openings to enter Nokron, Eternal City.
  3. Follow the rooftops down into Nokron's streets, then continue to the Mimic Tear boss. Defeat it and cross the long bridge beyond the arena.
  4. Leave the bridge on the left where it opens into woodland. Follow the western cliff to Ancestral Woods grace, overlooking the lower rooftops.
  5. From the upper woodland, go toward the trees beside Hallowhorn Grounds and the Spirit Jellyfish along the northern cliff. Use the lower ledge below the edge, then follow the descending path into the cave to Aqueduct-Facing Cliffs grace. You do not need to light the ancestor pillars.
  6. Leave the cave toward the aqueduct. Drop onto the stone support leading to the building, then onto the lower ledge. A Crucible Knight patrols nearby, so wait for an opening before moving across.
  7. Continue toward the building with water pouring out. Another Crucible Knight stands by the waterfall. Go north through the water channel, turn into the area on the right and climb the stairs through the arch. D's twin sits near this approach to the boss.
  8. Defeat both Valiant Gargoyles. Afterward, activate Great Waterfall Basin grace and rest in the coffin beside the waterfall to reach Deeproot Depths.
  9. From Great Waterfall Crest, head west onto the huge roots. Use the root descending on the left to cross the gap, then continue west past the giant ants to Deeproot Depths grace beside the Finger Reader. The Erdtree Avatar and the ant cave are optional detours.
  10. Head north into the shallow water and ruins. The map is in the gazebo. Continue west beneath the large root and past the ghostly soldiers to The Nameless Eternal City grace beside an arch.
  11. From The Nameless Eternal City, move east to the partly submerged buildings and enormous rising roots. Climb from the ruins onto the broad root leading above the rooftops. The Mausoleum Knight and broken statue are useful landmarks near this ascent.
  12. Follow the root upward toward the towers. Take the branch leading left toward the western tower and step onto its top. Loot the corpse there for Prince of Death's Staff.
  13. The route continuing northeast reaches Across the Roots and Fia's Champions. That boss fight is unnecessary for this rooftop pickup, as are Fia's cursemark and ending quest.

Notes

  • Requires 6 Strength, 18 Intelligence and 18 Faith and weighs 3.0. Intelligence and Faith contribute equally to sorcery scaling when their values are equal. Strength only helps staff strikes.
  • It benefits from substantial investment in both casting attributes. At +25 it has 286 sorcery scaling at 50 Intelligence and 50 Faith, rising to 430 at 80 in both. Those numbers do not make it the strongest choice at every level, especially for a build investing mainly in Intelligence.
  • Increases damage from Rancorcall, Ancient Death Rancor, Explosive Ghostflame and Tibia's Summons by 10%. Rings of Spectral Light, Mass of Putrescence and Vortex of Putrescence do not receive this bonus, despite their related appearance or themes.
  • Fia's Mist inflicts Death Blight rather than ordinary damage. The staff's damage bonus does not raise that buildup or make the mist work on enemies that are immune to Death Blight.
  • You can hold this staff in your other active hand for its 10% bonus while casting an eligible spell through a stronger staff. Two copies multiply to a 21% bonus. Upgrading a copy used only for the passive does not increase that percentage.
  • Scholar's Armament uses the Intelligence contribution to the casting staff's scaling. Faith contributes to this staff's displayed total but does not strengthen that weapon enchantment.
  • Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25. It starts with No Skill and can use the compatible Spinning Weapon Ash of War. Its hybrid scaling does not let it cast incantations, and it cannot be coated with grease or a weapon enchantment.
  • The staff is a corpse pickup on a tower reached by the roots. It is not dropped by Fia, her champions or Fortissax, so you can collect it before completing her quest.
