In-game description

Staff missing its glintstone. Wielded by sorcerers who believe that discovery comes through acts of asceticism.

This staff only distinguishes itself when casting invisibility sorceries, but that is reason enough for some to wield it.

Starting Site of Grace: Sellia Under-Stair

  1. From Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank, follow the road north through Sellia Gateway. Watch for the giant throwing rocks above the gateway. Gowry's wooden shack is off the road on the right, before the town.
  2. Continue north into Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Activate Sellia Under-Stair on the southwestern edge and follow the main street north, watching for sorcerers appearing beside the buildings.
  3. Climb the stairs at the far end toward the golden sapling and the sealed upper gate. The large roots beside these steps provide the way onto the roofs.
  4. From the golden sapling steps, use the root through the broken railing toward the nearby tower on the southwestern side. Step back onto the branch and look toward the buildings overlooking the swamp.
  5. Find the corpse draped over a balcony railing on the northwestern building. Drop carefully onto that balcony and loot Staff of Loss. Lighting the tower flames is not required to make this corpse appear.

Notes

  • Requires 6 Strength, 12 Dexterity and 14 Intelligence, and weighs 2.5. Its Sorcery Scaling uses Intelligence; the other requirements do not add separate spell damage.
  • Raises Night Shard and Night Comet damage by 30%. Ambush Shard, Night Maiden's Mist, Unseen Form and Unseen Blade do not receive this bonus.
  • The bonus works while the staff is active in either hand, including when a different staff casts the spell. Two active copies multiply to 69% more damage for the two qualifying spells; an inactive equipment slot gives no bonus.
  • A stronger casting staff and an active Staff of Loss can work together. The casting staff supplies Sorcery Scaling, while Staff of Loss supplies the separate night-projectile bonus.
  • It has no extra FP penalty and does not make your own character invisible. Its missing glintstone is not a requirement to cast without a spell slot or FP.
  • Upgrade it with Smithing Stones to +25. It starts with No Skill and can use the compatible Spinning Weapon Ash of War. Grease and weapon enchantments cannot be applied to it.
  • The balcony corpse can be reached before solving the tower puzzle. The Nox duo, Lusat's chamber and Gowry's quest are different rewards and requirements.
