In-game description
Greatsword embedded with a blue glintstone.
Weapon of the trolls in service to the royal family of Caria. Called into service when the Queen invoked an oath they swore, the trolls are treated as true knights of Caria, and fight arm in arm with their human comrades.
Skill
Look into the distance and let out an intense roar, generating a powerful shockwave that blows back surrounding foes. Follow up with a strong attack to slam the armament down.Ash of War: Troll's Roar
Where to find
Liurnia of the Lakes
Starting Site of Grace: Manor Upper Level
- Leave Manor Upper Level and follow the main garden path past the wolves to the large staircase guarded by sorcerers.
- Defeat the armored Troll Knight standing on these stairs to receive the sword on its first defeat. This is before Royal Knight Loretta's arena.
- Collect the sword after defeating this particular Troll Knight. Royal Knight Loretta is farther up the stairs and is unnecessary for the guaranteed first copy.
- Troll Knights also have a base 8% random sword drop at 100 Discovery, so further copies are possible. The spectral knights on the Four Belfries hill are another source. Ordinary unarmored trolls and the Bols evergaol reward are different.
Notes
- Requires 20 Strength, 14 Dexterity and 18 Intelligence and weighs 18.0. It is a Colossal Sword. Strength and Dexterity contribute equally to the physical portion at equal values, while Intelligence improves the smaller magic portion.
- Its first heavy attack is a thrust, including the charged version, giving it another forward-reaching option besides the crouching poke. The second heavy continues with a different motion. This moveset is shared with weapons including Zweihander and Fire Knight's Greatsword.
- Intelligence is needed to wield it, but raising that attribute alone does not improve the roar or the larger physical portion. A Strength investment supports both physical sword damage and the roar; a Strength and Dexterity split can favor ordinary attacks at higher total investment.
- Troll's Roar costs 22 FP. The roar hits around you, then a strong-attack input gives an overhead slam without an extra FP charge. The follow-up still needs stamina, and you can stop after the roar if the enemy has moved away.
- The roar's separate physical attack improves with Strength and weapon reinforcement. Its strongest close contact deals 40 stance damage, while the outer part is weaker. A distant hit is not the same stance-breaking opportunity as landing it beside the target.
- Roar Medallion increases the roar and follow-up damage by 15%, and an active Highland Axe gives another 10%. These improve HP damage rather than increasing stance damage by the same percentages. Godfrey Icon does not apply because the skill is not chargeable.
- A clean close roar followed by the full sword slam can deal 76 stance damage before target-specific modifiers. Both attacks must connect; a moving enemy or a hit at the edge of the roar changes that result.
- Upgrade with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. The skill and affinity are fixed, and grease or weapon enchantments cannot be applied. The glintstone does not make it a catalyst for memorized sorceries.
