Before you go

  • Bring 3,500 runes.
  1. One checked approach to Bellum Highway uses the Academy Glintstone Key. Collect it behind the sleeping dragon north of Temple Quarter, then examine the seal at South Raya Lucaria Gate to reach Main Academy Gate.
  2. From Main Academy Gate, examine the other blue seal at the northeast end of the junction. It takes you across the broken bridge to East Raya Lucaria Gate; walking along the broken bridge itself does not cross the gap.
  3. Ride north along Bellum Highway and turn toward Bellum Church on the left side of the road. Activate its grace.
  4. Use the broken floor and descending path through Bellum Church to reach the merchant camp just north of the church. He is below the approach, rather than beside the statue.
  5. Buy Composite Bow for 3,500 runes. You do not need to activate Grand Lift of Dectus or defeat an academy boss for this route.

Notes

  • Needs 15 Dexterity and shows a 15 Strength requirement. Bows fire with both hands, so 10 Strength satisfies that requirement through the two-handed bonus.
  • Physical damage scales more strongly with Dexterity than Strength. Its Dexterity scaling is unusually strong for a light bow, though bow scaling still gives smaller returns than many melee weapons.
  • As a light bow, it has quick shots after dodging and during jumps. That mobility is useful at closer range, where standing still for a longbow shot would be harder.
  • Starts with Mighty Shot rather than Barrage. Hold the skill input to draw, then fire the selected arrow for a stronger shot costing 6 FP. A normal shot still spends an arrow and stamina, without that FP cost.
  • Uses ordinary arrows, with two ammunition slots for switching arrow types. Greatarrows and bolts do not fit this bow.
  • Upgrade it with Smithing Stones to +25. Can use compatible bow Ashes of War, including a different shooting skill, but bow skills do not provide the melee affinity choices.
  • Grease and weapon enchantments cannot be applied to the bow. Choose the arrow for any additional elemental damage or status buildup.
  • The Bellum merchant sells one for 3,500 runes. Resting does not replenish a purchased bow.
