Head
Raises Intelligence and Faith by 2 each while worn, but reduces maximum HP by 9%. This is a health-capacity penalty, rather than reduced Crimson Flask healing.
These values are for this piece. Your total also depends on your other armor and active effects.
Poise & status resistance
Higher resistance lets more buildup accumulate before a status triggers.

Compare head armor
The ten same-slot pieces closest in weight to Greathood. Lower weight is lighter; higher poise, negation and resistance provide more protection. Negation differences are percentage points.
Raises Intelligence and Faith by 2 each while worn, but reduces maximum HP by 9%. This is a health-capacity penalty, rather than reduced Crimson Flask healing.
The attributes can help meet spell or weapon requirements and improve damage that actually scales with Intelligence or Faith. They do not add either scaling to an unrelated weapon, and a spell already at its relevant scaling cap may gain little damage.
Weighs 5.1 and provides 5 poise. It cannot be altered and does not belong to a matching outfit with a separate bonus.

Starting Site of Grace: Snow Valley Ruins Overlook
Defeat Morgott in Leyndell, speak to Melina for the Rold Medallion and follow the capital's eastern exit through Forbidden Lands to the Grand Lift of Rold. Use the ordinary medallion for the Mountaintops, rather than the secret destination.
Use the ordinary Rold Medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold to reach the Mountaintops. From Zamor Ruins, follow the eastern path around north through the mountain gap and across the narrow stone crossing, using its low cover against the Golem's arrows.
Continue to Ancient Snow Valley Ruins and follow the valley north. Turn right along the frozen river, then climb the left-side path by the cliffs to Freezing Lake grace.
From Freezing Lake, follow the cliff uphill around to the west rather than crossing the lake. Pass through the graveyard toward Snow Valley Ruins Overlook and continue west over the high ground.
At the larger graveyard, take the descent north toward the walking mausoleum and Castle Sol. Activate Castle Sol Main Gate grace outside the entrance, away from the mausoleum's feet.
Enter Castle Sol and turn left through the courtyard barricades, keeping clear of the two Lion Guardians. Enter the room with Skeletal Slimes on the western side and climb its ladder.
Follow the northern and western ramparts past the phantom soldiers and mounted ballistas. Use the walls for cover, then cross the wooden bridge toward the central building's roof.
Climb down the roof ladder into the otherwise locked room. Examine the Sorcerer painting to add it to your inventory, then open the door from inside. Commander Niall is optional for this painting.
Return to Snow Valley Ruins Overlook and ride west through the graveyard where enormous skeletons rise from the ground. Continue to the broad stone bridge near Shack of the Lofty, northwest of Stargazers' Ruins.
Walk along the bridge and check the eastern edge near its middle for a seated painter. Move close and wait for him to fade, then pick up Greathood from the ground. The spirit does not appear until you have examined the original painting.

You must examine Sorcerer Painting in Castle Sol first. The hood is left by the painter on the bridge northwest of Stargazers' Ruins, rather than found beside the painting or awarded by Commander Niall.
The painter appears when you approach, then disappears and leaves the pickup. You do not pay him, hand over the painting or need a particular time of day.
