It is a painting reward, not a drop from Rennala or the small scholars in her boss room. Examine Resurrection Painting before approaching the reward spirit.
The painter leaves both the cap and robe, together with a Larval Tear. You do not need to kill Rennala to collect the clothing, although her defeat is required to use rebirth.
In-game description
Cap worn by young academy scholars, the juveniles birthed anew by the amber egg of Queen Rennala, the head of Raya Lucaria Academy.
Yet their rebirth is not without imperfections, and thus do they repeat the process, eventually becoming utterly dependent upon it.
Rebirth is as sleep to them, and with each awakening, memory fades into oblivion.

Before you go
- Examine Resurrection Painting and defeat Royal Knight Loretta in Caria Manor.
- On eastern Liurnia's high ground, start at Liurnia Highway North and follow the muddy path north. Stay on the plateau rather than descending into the lake.
- Reach Artist's Shack near the cliff, northwest of Carian Study Hall. Activate its grace and examine Resurrection Painting inside. This is the Liurnia shack, not the Homing Instinct shack in Limgrave.
- Reach the western Liurnia road and follow it north through Kingsrealm Ruins. Strike the illusory wall blocking the road at the northern end, then continue past Iji at Road to the Manor.
- Ride toward the large manor while avoiding the magical strikes falling along the approach. Activate Main Caria Manor Gate grace at the entrance.
- Inside, follow the courtyard path northwest toward the building in the far corner. Fingercreepers hide among the plants and beneath the ground; do not stop on a buried hand.
- Enter the building with the seated spirit and climb its stairs to Manor Lower Level grace.
- Take the elevated walkways east and continue straight along the main route at the first junction. Spectral soldiers appear along the bridges. Reach the far building and take its lift up to Manor Upper Level.
- Leave the upper grace, pass the wolves in the garden and climb the main stone stairway toward the Troll Knight and sorcerers.
- Continue up the stairs beyond the troll and Pages to the large circular courtyard. Defeat Royal Knight Loretta, then activate Royal Moongazing Grounds grace.
- Leave Loretta's arena through the rear exit into Three Sisters. Follow the path clockwise around the manor's northern side to reach Behind Caria Manor grace.
- Continue southeast from that grace toward the cliffside graveyard east of the manor. Search among the graves for the seated painter's spirit, with Raya Lucaria visible in the distance.
- Approach the painter and wait for it to disappear. Collect the Juvenile Scholar Cap, Juvenile Scholar Robe and Larval Tear it leaves. If there is no spirit, make sure you examined Resurrection Painting at the Liurnia Artist's Shack first.
