In-game description
Old armor that has seen many battles.
Worn by Niall, the veteran general of Sol.
Niall was a lone survivor who commanded spirits to defend his long-passed master.
This aging general could not die, nor did he have anywhere to fade away.
Where to find
Enia purchase, then tailoring at a grace
Roundtable Hold
Starting Site of Grace: Church of the Eclipse
Before you go
Obtain Veteran's Armor and the Tailoring Tools, or use Boc's tailoring service.
Use the ordinary Rold Medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold to reach the Mountaintops. From Zamor Ruins, follow the eastern path around north through the mountain gap and across the narrow stone crossing, using its low cover against the Golem's arrows.
Continue to Ancient Snow Valley Ruins and follow the valley north. Turn right along the frozen river, then climb the left-side path by the cliffs to Freezing Lake grace.
From Freezing Lake, follow the cliff uphill around to the west rather than crossing the lake. Pass through the graveyard toward Snow Valley Ruins Overlook and continue west over the high ground.
At the larger graveyard, take the descent north toward the walking mausoleum and Castle Sol. Activate Castle Sol Main Gate grace outside the entrance, away from the mausoleum's feet.
Enter the courtyard and pass the two Lion Guardians to the stairs at the back. Climb both flights, cross the upper area with dogs and a hawk, then enter the doorway at the far end.
Climb the stairs through the appearing soldiers. Pass the knight at the top and enter the building on the left for Church of the Eclipse grace.
Go through the church and out its side door into the building opposite. Watch for enemies hanging from the ceiling that scream to call more soldiers.
Continue upstairs and out toward the boss fog. Pull the lift lever on the left to open the shortcut before attempting the fight.
Defeat Commander Niall and his two Banished Knight summons. Commander O'Neil in Caelid is a different boss and does not unlock these Castle Sol rewards.
Return to Roundtable Hold and speak to Enia beside the Two Fingers. Open Receive equipment of champions to buy the armor pieces separately for runes.
Buy Veteran's Armor for 6,000 runes. The shop has one copy of the regular piece.
Find Coastal Cave on the beach below western Limgrave. Bring a torch or lantern, clear the cave and defeat the two Demi-Human Chiefs for the Tailoring Tools and Sewing Needle.
Rest at a Site of Grace, choose Alter garments and select Veteran's Armor to make Veteran's Armor (Altered). This changes the item you already own; it does not create another copy.
Notes
Weighs 17.2 and provides 35 poise. Include your weapons and talismans when choosing a roll load.

Bought from Enia after Commander Niall. No remembrance is required, and buying the clothes does not spend the secret medallion half.
Can be mixed with other armor without losing a matching-outfit bonus. It cannot be upgraded with Smithing Stones.
Altering the chest saves 1.7 weight and lowers poise from 38 to 35, with reduced protection and resistance. Tailoring can be reversed and changes the chest you already own rather than making a second copy.
