Before you go

  • Bring 1,500 runes.
  1. One checked approach to Bellum Highway uses the Academy Glintstone Key. Collect it behind the sleeping dragon north of Temple Quarter, then examine the seal at South Raya Lucaria Gate to reach Main Academy Gate.
  2. From Main Academy Gate, examine the other blue seal at the northeast end of the junction. It takes you across the broken bridge to East Raya Lucaria Gate; walking along the broken bridge itself does not cross the gap.
  3. Ride north along Bellum Highway and turn toward Bellum Church on the left side of the road. Activate its grace.
  4. Use the broken floor and descending path through Bellum Church to reach the merchant camp just north of the church. He is below the approach, rather than beside the statue.
  5. Buy Blue Crest Heater Shield for 1,500 runes. You do not need to activate Grand Lift of Dectus or defeat an academy boss for this route.

Notes

  • Needs 10 Strength and weighs 3.5. Confessor starts with one; other classes can buy it from the merchant below Bellum Church.
  • Standard affinity blocks 100% of physical damage from a successfully guarded hit, provided your guard and stamina hold. It does not prevent damage from an unblocked attack or a grab.
  • Its starting Guard Boost is 53. That reduces stamina spent blocking and is separate from the percentage of HP damage stopped.
  • Elemental protection is lower: Magic 43%, Fire 42%, Lightning 32% and Holy 50%. A physical-looking attack with an elemental component can still cause chip damage.
  • Starts with Parry, which costs no FP. Parrying is a timed response to a parryable attack, rather than the same action as holding guard.
  • Can use compatible shield Ashes of War. No Skill is useful when you want the right-hand weapon's skill available without putting the shield away.
  • Upgrade it with Smithing Stones to +25. Changing affinity can change its guard percentages, so the Standard physical block does not describe every infused version.
  • The shop price is 1,500 runes. Its crest does not grant an extra attribute, resistance or damage bonus.
