LocationGodrick Knight at Gatefront Ruins

Limgrave

Starting Site of Grace: Gatefront

From Church of Elleh, follow the road north through the woods to Gatefront Ruins. Activate Gatefront beside the large gate before starting the farm.
From Gatefront, enter the ruins and find the armored Godrick Knight patrolling the main road with a spear and large gold shield. Clear the nearby soldiers so they do not surround you during the fight.
Defeat the knight and check its drop. Rest at Gatefront and repeat until the shield appears. Ordinary soldiers carrying smaller shields cannot drop Gilded Greatshield.

Requires 36 Strength and weighs 16.5. On Standard affinity it blocks all Physical damage from a successful guarded hit and starts with 71 Guard Boost. You still need enough stamina to avoid a guard break.
Standard Fire protection is 66% and Holy protection is 65%; Lightning is its weakest element at 54%. The gold coating adds neither Holy damage nor a Faith bonus.
No Skill is fitted by default, leaving the right-hand weapon skill available. Can use compatible greatshield Ashes of War, including a defensive skill or an attacking shield skill.
Shield attacks scale with Strength on Standard. Defensive use does not require investment in Dexterity or Faith beyond the shield's actual requirements.
Upgrade it with ordinary Smithing Stones to +25. Changing affinity can trade Physical protection for better elemental protection.
The shield-carrying Godrick Knight has a 4% base drop chance at 100 Discovery. Ordinary soldiers with Brass Shield or Lordsworn's Shield are different targets.
