Starting Site of Grace: Secluded Cell

Before you go

  • Reach Secluded Cell in Stormveil Castle.
  1. Progress through Stormveil to Secluded Cell, the grace in the small room just before Godrick's fog door. Leave the room and turn away from the boss approach toward the uphill passage with Living Jars.
  2. Climb the slope into the jar room, turn back and get onto the raised wooden platforms along its eastern side. Run to their end and jump onto the narrow ledge against the wall.
  3. Follow the ledge to the right, jump to the next section and enter the high arched window. Turn right through the upper passage into the storeroom and climb the stairs.
  4. Turn right up the next stairs onto the wooden platform, then left into the dark corridor. Enter the large room filled with Commoners and clear space beside its stairs.
  5. Search the hay beneath the upper stairs for the corpse holding Manor Towershield. Collect it before following any optional route farther down into the castle.

Notes

  • Requires 30 Strength and weighs 15.5. Standard affinity provides a full physical block and 71 base Guard Boost.
  • Standard Magic and Fire guarding are both 66%, Holy is 56% and Lightning is 51%. It is an early fixed pickup with useful mixed protection if your Strength and load allow it.
  • Shield Bash is the default skill and costs 10 FP. Can use compatible Ashes of War, including No Skill for a right-hand weapon skill.
  • Its Standard shield attacks scale with Strength. The manor crest gives no passive buff, extra maximum stamina or automatic protection from a strike that misses your guard.
  • The corpse is under stairs in the Commoner storeroom, reached by the ledges near Secluded Cell. It is separate from the Wooden Greatshield in the main courtyard guardhouse.
  • Godrick and the Ulcerated Tree Spirit below Stormveil are not required. The storeroom route connects toward other optional areas, but you can collect the shield and leave.
  • Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25. Defensive Shield Grease or a compatible shield-buff spell can improve guarding separately from offensive weapon coatings. Reinforcement does not remove chip damage from an incompletely blocked damage type.
