Starting Site of Grace: Castle Morne Rampart

Before you go

  • Have 1,000 runes.
  1. Cross the Bridge of Sacrifice into the Weeping Peninsula and follow the main road south toward Castle Morne.
  2. Stop at Castle Morne Rampart grace, beside the broken defensive wall, and find the merchant seated nearby.
  3. Buy Round Shield for 1,000 runes. It is the medium shield, rather than the lighter Red Thorn Roundshield offered by the same merchant.

Notes

  • A medium shield requiring 8 Strength and weighing 4. It blocks 94% physical damage with 51 base Guard Boost on Standard, rather than giving a complete physical block.
  • Standard Magic and Holy guards are 50%, Lightning is 43% and Fire is 37%. The painted design provides no passive resistance increase when you are not guarding.
  • Comes with ordinary Parry and can use compatible Ashes of War. Adding No Skill lets a right-hand weapon skill take priority while you hold the shield in your left hand.
  • Its Standard shield attacks scale with Strength. More Strength does not improve its guard percentages, and reinforcement does not remove the remaining physical chip damage.
  • The Castle Morne Rampart merchant sells one for 1,000 runes. Red Thorn Roundshield is a different, lighter small shield sold by the same merchant; the two purchases do not share one stock item.
  • Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25. Defensive Shield Grease or a compatible shield-buff spell can improve guarding separately from offensive weapon coatings. Reinforcement does not remove chip damage from an incompletely blocked damage type.
