In-game description
A large wooden shield covered with spikes. Though relatively light, it lacks in damage negation.
Designed to perform shield bashes, these attacks riddle the enemy with holes, earning it the nickname of "pard shield."
Skill
Brace behind shield before using bodyweight to ram foes while maintaining guarding stance. Weaker enemies will be shoved backwards, and can even be staggered.Ash of War: Shield Bash
Compatible Ashes of War (7)
These Ashes of War can be applied to this weapon.
Where to find
Caelid
Starting Site of Grace: Deep Siofra Well
Before you go
- Unlock the lift from northern Siofra River with two Stonesword Keys.
- Start at Siofra River Well in eastern Limgrave, beside the Minor Erdtree in Mistwood. Take its long lift underground and activate the grace at the bottom.
- Head northeast through the ruined buildings to the second lift. Ride up, then follow the stream east into the open cavern. Siofra River Bank grace is on the left as the cavern opens out.
- Travel north through the basin, past Worshippers' Woods and its stone pillars. Watch for the ancestral archers and lightning balls. Continue to the stairs at the far northern end and activate Below the Well grace.
- Climb the stairs to the imp seal and use two Stonesword Keys to unlock the lift. Ride up to Deep Siofra Well in Dragonbarrow.
- Follow the canyon west and then northwest toward the huge jar and circular arena. Two greatbow golems cover the approach. Use the rocks and bends in the canyon to break their line of sight.
- Before the Great-Jar's dueling area, look for the corpse on a small rock beside the canyon route near the golem archers. Use the rocks to break their line of sight, reach the corpse and loot Spiked Palisade Shield.
- The three red-sign duels award a different item. You can collect the shield and leave without completing them or killing either golem.
Notes
- Requires 20 Strength and weighs 9.5. Standard affinity blocks 95% physical damage with 63 base Guard Boost, so its lighter offensive role comes with physical chip damage.
- Shield attacks have 70 innate Blood Loss buildup. Blocking does not apply it, and an enemy immune to bleed will only suffer the direct attack damage.
- Shield Bash is the default skill. Can use compatible Ashes of War, including Shield Crash for repeated attacking contact while guarding. Its rushing hits do not all apply the full displayed buildup.
- Standard physical attacks scale with Strength. Poison, Blood or Occult affinity adds Arcane scaling, allowing Arcane to improve eligible status buildup; raising Arcane with Standard affinity does not improve its innate bleed.
- With Blood affinity, the buildup progression matches other Blood greatshields, but its innate bleeding preserves an extra 100 HP in the flat part of a bleed burst compared with a shield without innate bleed. This is proc damage, not extra buildup.
- Its physical attack and physical guarding are stronger than Briar Greatshield's on Standard, at the cost of one extra unit of weight. Neither provides a full physical block.
- Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25. Defensive Shield Grease and compatible shield spells improve guarding separately from the offensive affinity.
- The shield is a fixed corpse pickup on the canyon approach to the Great-Jar. You do not need to win his three duels or enter the colosseum, but the golem archers can hit you while you loot.
