Starting Site of Grace: Coastal Cave
- From Church of Elleh, head southwest toward the western coast and use the sloping route beside the collapsed stonework to reach the beach. Do not jump straight off the high cliff.
- Look for Coastal Cave in the cliff face, southwest of the church and south of Stormfoot Catacombs. Enter and activate the grace on the left.
- Use a torch or lantern for the dark passage. Beyond the first Demi-Human, descend toward the larger chamber; the left-hand passage also leads around to its entrance.
- Defeat the ordinary small-shield Demi-Humans on this approach and collect their glowing drops. Rest at Coastal Cave to repeat; the shield has a 2% base chance at 100 Discovery.
- The two Chiefs farther in are unnecessary for the shield farm and have a different fixed reward.
Notes
- Requires eight Strength and weighs one, making it a very light shield. Standard affinity blocks only 74% Physical damage and starts with 46 Guard Boost.
- Parry is fitted by default and costs no FP. Its low weight can be useful for carrying a parry option without the load of a larger shield.
- Its poor physical coverage means ordinary blocks still cost HP as well as stamina. A successful parry and a successful block are different defensive results.
- Prophet starts with it. Other classes can farm shield-carrying Demi-Humans in Coastal Cave, with a 2% base chance at 100 Discovery.
- The two Demi-Human Chiefs award Tailoring Tools and Sewing Needle, not a guaranteed Rickety Shield. The shield comes from the ordinary carriers' random drops.
- Upgrade it with ordinary Smithing Stones to +25. The listed blocking percentages and base Guard Boost describe Standard affinity; changing affinity can trade physical protection for an element.
- Can use compatible shield Ashes of War. Shield Grease or Scholar's Shield can improve guarding; these are defensive shield buffs rather than permission to apply ordinary offensive grease to every affinity.
