Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Abandoned Cave

  1. From Smoldering Wall in Caelid, head east through the dead trees to the ravine. Look across for the cave opening in the opposite cliff, above the bottom of the chasm.
  2. Cross the large dead branch spanning the gap, keeping to its center, then enter Abandoned Cave and activate the grace. The Abductor Virgin outside does not need to be defeated.
  3. Bring a light and Scarlet Rot treatment. Drop into the first rot pool after a bubbling geyser erupts, turn left and move to the dry ground beside the inactive Abductor Virgin.
  4. Take the left passage past the summoning pool. The right branch beside the inactive machine is a separate dead end with Dragonwound Grease.
  5. At the next ledge, move right before dropping into the second rot chamber. A mushroom-covered enemy waits beside the right-hand tunnel.
  6. Take that right-hand tunnel onto dry ground. Continue past the rats and the next mushroom-covered enemy, then through the smaller rat room into the large chamber with the giant Miranda flower.
  7. In the flower chamber, head to the western side behind the giant Miranda flower. Climb the piled Abductor Virgin wreckage to the ledge and loot the corpse for Venomous Fang.
  8. The flower is a hazard guarding the approach, not the weapon's drop. The cave bosses are also optional for this pickup.

Notes

  • Requires 9 Strength and 9 Dexterity and weighs 2.5. With Standard affinity, Dexterity gives stronger Physical scaling than Strength. Heavy and Keen favor their respective attributes, while Occult shifts the focus toward Arcane.
  • Inflicts Deadly Poison rather than ordinary Poison. On Standard, it has 72 listed Poison buildup, and the triggered ailment drains 0.14% of the target's maximum HP plus 14 HP per second for 30 seconds.
  • Poison affinity has a distinctive interaction: it keeps the faster Deadly Poison damage but extends the duration to 90 seconds. At +25, that affinity has 95 base Poison buildup before Arcane scaling. The longer duration matters only if the target survives and the ailment is not cured.
  • Occult retains the shorter 30-second Deadly Poison and adds strong Arcane scaling to Physical damage and Poison buildup. It offers a different tradeoff from Poison affinity, rather than the longer duration simply being an automatic best choice.
  • Standard has no Arcane scaling, so leveling Arcane alone does not increase its Poison buildup there. Blood, Poison and Occult add Arcane scaling; Blood also adds Blood Loss, while Cold adds Frost alongside the retained Poison.
  • Two-handing this paired weapon brings out a claw for each hand. You can use paired attacks with one copy; a second copy is not required.
  • Its critical rating is 100. The poison effect does not give it the higher critical rating found on several other claw weapons.
  • Quickstep is the default skill and costs 3 FP. Can use compatible Ashes of War, with available affinities depending on the skill and your whetblades.
  • Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs. Poison, Blood, Occult and elemental affinities do not allow those ordinary coatings.
  • Upgrade it with Smithing Stones to +25. Upgrading improves its attacks, but the ailments still need a vulnerable target and enough landed hits to fill the relevant meter.
  • The weapon is on a corpse above the flower chamber. The giant flower and the two Cleanrot Knights do not drop it.
