Starting Site of Grace: Stormveil Main Gate

Before you go

Defeat Margit and follow the entrance tunnel to Stormveil Main Gate grace. Gostoc is in the gatehouse room on the left of the closed main entrance.
Speak to him about entering the castle. Asking for the main gate to be opened does not force you to use it; the cliffside route remains available.
Return to Gostoc and open his shop once available. If you followed the side route and he is not selling yet, progress to the Rusty Key room in the outer wall and return before defeating Godrick.
Buy Caestus for 800 runes.
If you have already defeated Godrick and Gostoc is not selling, keep him alive and progress Nepheli's quest. Give her The Stormhawk King, rather than Seluvis's Potion, and defeat Morgott in Leyndell.
Return to Godrick's grace, finish Gostoc's dialogue and rest or reload the area. Once Nepheli has moved into the throne room beyond the arena, speak to Gostoc at the back to use his later shop.
If Gostoc is already dead, give his bell bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold. His remaining early equipment can be bought there; previously bought limited stock does not refill.

Needs 8 Strength and 8 Dexterity and weighs 1.5. Standard affinity has a slight Strength lean with substantial Dexterity scaling, rather than being a pure Strength weapon.
Deals Strike damage and has no innate blood loss. Spiked Caestus adds innate blood loss, but needs 10 Dexterity and weighs 2.0 instead.
Two-hand it to equip a fist on each hand. One copy provides the pair; you do not need to buy two to use its paired attacks.
Its short reach means you need to stay close. It has the ordinary 100 critical rating rather than a special critical-hit bonus.
The default Endure skill costs 9 FP and briefly improves resistance to interruption and incoming damage. It is not invulnerability, and activating it does not add a damaging punch.
Upgrade it with Smithing Stones to +25. Can use compatible Ashes of War and their available affinities.
Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs. Changing to an elemental or status affinity can change that eligibility.
