Starting Site of Grace: Coastal Cave

Before you go

  • Bring 600 runes.
  1. From the Church of Elleh in western Limgrave, head toward the coast and use the grassy slope north of the sheer starting-area cliffs to descend to the beach. Do not jump straight down the cliff behind The First Step.
  2. Follow the beach south to Coastal Cave, the doorway in the cliff, and activate its entrance grace. The merchant is outside, so entering the dungeon boss room is unnecessary.
  3. From Coastal Cave, follow the shore southeast to the collapsed stone structure. Find the seated Nomadic Merchant beside the campfire beneath it.
  4. Buy Club for 600 runes. The merchant has one copy per journey.

Notes

  • With Standard affinity, physical damage scales only with Strength. It has no Dexterity requirement or Dexterity damage scaling on that affinity, making it a simple blunt backup for a character investing elsewhere.
  • Requires 10 Strength, weighs 3.5 and has a critical rating of 100. Every starting class can use it at its starting attributes, although a character below 10 Strength needs to two-hand it.
  • Its repetitive light attacks have a slightly quicker chain than the regular hammer pattern. The short wooden head still requires close positioning. It has no innate bleed, unlike Spiked Club.
  • Barbaric Roar costs 16 FP and gives a 40-second weapon buff. It increases physical damage and Strength scaling, and replaces the heavy attacks with combinations. The opening roar can stagger nearby smaller enemies, but is not a damaging projectile.
  • Roar Medallion and an actively held Highland Axe strengthen the changed heavy attacks. Axe Talisman helps their fully charged versions. Shard of Alexander does not boost those heavy attacks, because they are weapon attacks enabled by the roar.
  • The roar is a weapon buff. Putting the club away or applying another weapon coating ends it. Its longer heavy combinations also need a larger opening than a single light swing.
  • Can use compatible Ashes of War and upgrades with Smithing Stones to +25. Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied with Standard, Heavy, Keen or Quality affinity; elemental and status affinities prevent ordinary weapon coatings.
  • Wretch starts with one and the western beach merchant sells one for 600 runes. Plain-club Demi-Humans can also drop it at a 2% base chance at 100 Item Discovery; the larger enemies carrying fang-covered clubs drop Spiked Club instead.
