Starting Site of Grace: Church District Entrance
Before you go
- To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
- Defeat Queelign's invasions in Belurat and Church of the Crusade to obtain the Prayer Room Key.
- Keep an Iris of Occultation to give him.
- At Small Private Altar in Belurat, leave the grace room and climb the stairs past the patrolling Horned Warrior. Turn right into the street leading northeast to the courtyard with a large tree and grave markers.
- Enter the courtyard and defeat Fire Knight Queelign's invasion. At Church of the Crusade, on the rise northwest of Highroad Cross, enter the church and defeat his other invasion.
- The second invasion you defeat gives Prayer Room Key and Flame Skewer, whichever location you visit first. The first defeat awards Crusade Insignia instead.
- Obtain an Iris of Occultation before giving Queelign his final reward. One checked option is the Omenkiller in Fort of Reprimand's corpse pit, reached as follows.
- From Moorth Ruins in Scadu Altus, follow the highway south. Ride around the soldiers fighting the Ghostflame Dragon and continue through the passage at the southern end of their battlefield.
- Activate Moorth Highway, South grace in front of Fort of Reprimand, then enter the fort's main gate. Deal with the courtyard Omenkiller or draw it away before exploring the gallows and doorways.
- Find the open square chute in the northern part of the courtyard, beside the gallows. Drop to the first ledge inside rather than trying to clear the whole shaft in one jump.
- Drop farther into the corpse room. The Omenkiller waits around the left corner beside the bodies; defeat it to receive the Iris of Occultation. The courtyard Omenkiller and Black Knight Edredd give different rewards.
- Keep the Iris of Occultation in your inventory. Using it yourself spends the item and does not complete Queelign's handover.
- From Highroad Cross in Scadu Altus, follow the road east to Moorth Ruins and activate the grace beside the cross.
- Pass through the large stone arch east-southeast of the grace. At the house ahead, turn left toward the leaning tower. Avoid the large open shaft behind the house, which is too deep for a direct drop.
- Find the smaller gap between the broken building and the rock wall in front of the leaning tower. Drop onto the balcony-like ledge, turn right past the dogs and follow the cave inward.
- In the open chamber at the end, use the back-left ledges to reach the lower roof. The small shrine below is a landmark; the optional chest is not needed for this route.
- To continue east, drop from the lower roof to the ground and take the cave beside the building on the left. Follow it to the long ladder and climb out of the well at Bonny Village grace.
- Go east through Bonny Village, watching for the large cleaver-wielding villagers, and cross the two suspension bridges. The second brings you to Bridge Leading to the Village grace.
- Follow the road north through the woods to Church District Highroad grace. Take the northwestern road through the entrance tunnel and activate Church District Entrance inside Shadow Keep. This eastern entrance leads to the flooded district, rather than the main-gate Hippopotamus arena.
- Jump from the entrance ledge onto the first roof below. Follow its northwestern edge and jump from the raised roof section to the stone wall opposite, rather than taking the southwestern log platforms toward different loot.
- Follow the wall around and climb its northeastern rise. Jump to the next roof northwest, where a Fire Knight patrols. Clear it or make enough room to continue safely.
- Cross toward the next large church and jump onto the sloping stone support on your left. Walk southwest up that support to the high roof, then use the broken roof opening to drop onto the central beam below.
- Follow the roof beam to the upper corridor, then drop through its floor opening to the raised passage around the flooded church. Look to the right for the locked Prayer Room door.
- Use Prayer Room Key and speak to Queelign inside. Continue his dialogue and choose to give him Iris of Occultation, then stay beside him until the conversation and reward finish.
- You receive Queelign's Greatsword. Giving Iris of Grace instead awards his Spirit Ash and closes the sword reward for this journey. Draining the district is not required to reach his room.
Notes
- A Heavy Thrusting Sword rather than a normal Greatsword. Requires 14 Strength, 18 Dexterity and 12 Faith, weighs 7.5 and has a critical rating of 100.
- With Standard affinity, Physical damage favors Dexterity over Strength, while the Fire portion scales with Faith. Heavy shifts the Physical focus to Strength, and Keen strengthens its Dexterity focus.
- Flame Art makes Faith the main attribute for Fire damage. Fire affinity instead uses Strength and retains a Faith contribution, so the two Fire affinities are not interchangeable.
- The thrusting moveset can attack while guarding behind a raised shield, but each poke still spends stamina. Holding the shield up is not a guarantee against a guard break.
- Magic and Cold add Magic damage while Sacred adds Holy, keeping the existing small Fire portion. Those three-type setups meet three separate damage defenses rather than combining into one unresisted hit.
- Magic, Cold, Lightning and Sacred affinities keep some listed Fire damage but lose the usual Fire hit reaction. In those cases, ordinary hits do not clear active Frostbite, ignite red barrels or cause the special Fire reaction on Fingercreepers. The other affinities retain that reaction.
- Can use compatible Ashes of War. Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using Standard, Heavy, Keen or Quality affinity; the built-in Fire damage does not prevent those coatings. Elemental and status affinities prevent ordinary grease or spell coatings.
- Starts with Impaling Thrust for nine FP. Queelign uses Flame Skewer during his invasions, but that does not make Flame Skewer the sword's default skill when you receive it.
- Upgrades with Smithing Stones to +25. The reward is a fixed quest choice, rather than a random weapon drop from every Fire Knight.
- Give Queelign an Iris of Occultation for the sword. Iris of Grace gives Fire Knight Queelign's Spirit Ash instead; you cannot receive both choices from him in the same journey.
- Neither draining the Church District nor defeating Messmer is required to make this handover. The Prayer Room Key comes from defeating both invasions, not from killing the ordinary Fire Knights around the roofs.
