Starting Site of Grace: West Capital Rampart
Before you go
- Farm before defeating Maliketh.
- From Avenue Balcony, go down the northwest stairs and continue toward the huge petrified dragon. Climb its wing to the upper walkway, then take the passage and stairs to West Capital Rampart grace.
- From West Capital Rampart, follow the rampart south toward the huge root. Take the rising path southwest toward the colosseum rather than following the root toward the Erdtree Sanctuary.
- Defeat the Duelist patrolling the approach, then the second on the upper stairs beside the colosseum doors. Both can drop the regular helm, cloak and greaves; their weapons have separate drop rolls.
- Check their loot and rest at West Capital Rampart to repeat. The pieces are random drops, so defeating both once does not guarantee the full outfit. Finish this farm before defeating Maliketh, when these capital enemies disappear.
- For Battle Hammer, repeat the hammer-wielding carrier specifically. The other Duelist can drop clothing but does not provide this weapon.
Notes
- Requires 26 Strength and 8 Dexterity, and weighs 10. Standard strongly favors Strength over Dexterity; Heavy focuses the physical scaling on Strength. This is a Strike-damage great hammer.
- Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25. Can use compatible Ashes of War. Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs.
- Braggart's Roar is its starting skill and costs 16 FP. For 60 seconds it raises the weapon's physical attack power by 10%, reduces incoming hit damage by 10% and adds 10 stamina recovery per second.
- The roar changes two-handed heavy and charged heavy attacks. It does not replace your one-handed heavy attacks, and the roar itself is not a damaging shout.
- Roar Medallion and Highland Axe improve the changed heavy attacks. Axe Talisman applies when you fully charge the heavy attack; Shard of Alexander does not turn the physical attack-power buff into a larger percentage.
- Its Heavy affinity uses a different upgrade-scaling pattern from ordinary Heavy weapons. Some independent projectile skills therefore get a smaller Strength-scaling contribution than on the usual Heavy setup; that is separate from the hammer's displayed melee attack power.
- It has no innate rot, bleed or other status effect. The Rotten version is a different weapon with its own guaranteed Snowfield pickup.
- Its critical rating is 100. Wearing Duelist clothing does not grant a hidden bonus to its damage.
- Farm the hammer-wielding Duelist outside Leyndell's colosseum. Its base weapon drop chance is 4% at 100 Discovery, separate from the 3% rolls for each armor piece.
- Complete the farm before defeating Maliketh. The capital changes afterward and removes these enemies; the Snowfield's guaranteed Rotten reward does not replace this normal weapon.
- The hammer has short reach for a great hammer. Its Strike damage and heavy attacks are useful against hard targets, but you still need to get close enough to connect.
