Starting Site of Grace: Castle Front
Before you go
- To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
- Access the Realm of Shadow.
- From Castle Front, enter the nearby soldiers' camp and find the Messmer Soldiers carrying long spears.
- Defeat the spear carriers and check their drops. Return to Castle Front and rest to repeat the nearby group until the weapon drops.
Notes
- Requires 19 Strength and 16 Dexterity and weighs 8.5. It is a Great Spear rather than an ordinary spear. Strength and Dexterity contribute equally to Standard physical damage at equal values; an appropriate affinity changes that balance.
- A fully charged heavy attack produces two consecutive thrusts. Both have to connect for the full damage and stance pressure. A moving target can be caught by one and escape the other.
- Axe Talisman strengthens those charged ordinary attacks. A sufficiently quick two-hit sequence can also benefit from a temporary next-attack enhancement such as Royal Knight's Resolve, but movement or a missed contact can change the result.
- Like other suitable spears, it can thrust while guarding with a shield. Attacking and blocking both spend stamina, so keep enough to avoid a guard break. Its piercing attacks can also benefit from counter hits when they land during an enemy attack.
- Starts with Impaling Thrust, costing 9 FP for a forward lunge with substantial guard penetration. That skill is separate from the ordinary charged double thrust.
- Can use compatible Ashes of War and affinities. Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs. Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25.
- The spear has no innate blood loss or fire damage. The separate Spear of the Impaler is Messmer's unique remembrance weapon and is not obtained from these soldiers.
- Spear-carrying Messmer Soldiers have a base 2% weapon drop chance at 100 Discovery. Rest at Castle Front to repeat the nearby carriers. It is a random weapon drop, not a guarantee from the first soldier.
