Starting Site of Grace: Fog Rift Catacombs

Before you go

  • To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  1. From Castle Front, follow the road north beneath the fort's wooden structures into the foggy woodland. Continue past the Shadow Militiamen to the catacomb doors between two pale braziers. Enter, take the lift down, and activate the grace.
  2. From Fog Rift Catacombs, follow the entrance passage to the first Lion Imp carrying the long lizard-shaped sword.
  3. Defeat it and check its dropped items. Rest at the nearby grace and repeat until Lizard Greatsword drops.
  4. This is a random drop from sword-carrying Lion Imps, not the Death Knight's boss reward.

Notes

  • Requires 12 Strength and 14 Dexterity and weighs 9.5. On Standard affinity, Dexterity gives the stronger physical scaling and Strength contributes less.
  • Its heavy thrusts fire the forked tongue from the blade as a separate projectile. This is part of the ordinary moveset and costs no FP. You can use it without replacing the equipped Ash of War.
  • At close range the blade and tongue can both connect. The projectile can carry status supplied by an affinity, making Blood, Poison or Cold useful options, but an uncharged blade contact and the tongue do not always each apply a full normal hit's buildup.
  • The tongue does not receive flat damage or special effects added by a weapon coating in the same way as the actual blade. Do not assume a grease or enchantment strengthens both contacts equally.
  • Charging improves the heavy attack. Axe Talisman applies to its charged blade contact, rather than automatically increasing the separate tongue projectile by the same percentage. Godfrey Icon does not apply because this is not a charged skill.
  • Starts with Stamp (Upward Cut), costing 5 FP for the brace and another 8 FP for its strong-attack follow-up. That skill is separate from the FP-free tongue attacks.
  • Can use compatible Ashes of War and affinities. Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs. Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25.
  • Sword-carrying Lion Imps in Fog Rift Catacombs and Scorpion River Catacombs have a base 2% drop chance at 100 Discovery. The first suitable Imp near Fog Rift's entrance makes a short farm, with no Death Knight boss fight required.
