LocationCemetery Shade in Gelmir Hero's Grave

Mt. Gelmir

Starting Site of Grace: Gelmir Hero's Grave

Before you go

  • Reach Gelmir Hero's Grave southwest of First Mt. Gelmir Campsite.
  1. From Bridge of Iniquity on Altus Plateau, follow the road west toward the fighting soldiers and Abductor Virgins. Find the long ladder against the cliff to the south and climb to First Mt. Gelmir Campsite.
  2. From First Mt. Gelmir Campsite, follow the path west, then around its bend south. Pass the wolves to the large stone entrance at the dead end, enter Gelmir Hero's Grave and ride the lift down to its grace.
  3. Descend the southern stairs to the first chariot ramp. Move between the wall alcoves after the chariot passes, and clear any skeleton in your shelter so it cannot push you back into the ramp. Hit a fallen skeleton again as it starts to reassemble.
  4. Near the lower part of this ramp, take the side alcove containing Grave Glovewort and stairs into the dungeon rooms. Use this side route rather than continuing through the long lava channel.
  5. Clear the Pages and skeletons, climb the stairs and wait for a pause in the flame trap. Cross into the pillar room and strike the pillar to lower it, then take the exit into the second chariot passage.
  6. Go down the second ramp using its side alcoves. Near the bottom, a Cemetery Shade waits in the corner shelter before the route becomes covered in lava. Keep the chariot in view while dealing with it.
  7. Defeat the Cemetery Shade in that corner alcove for Mantis Blade. The drop is guaranteed on this particular Shade's first defeat, rather than a rare drop from every Cemetery Shade.
  8. Keep clear of the chariot while fighting. You do not need to descend into the lava, enter the Bloodhound Knight room or defeat the Red Wolf for the blade.

Notes

  • Requires 10 Strength and 12 Dexterity, and weighs 4. With Standard affinity, Dexterity gives its physical damage stronger scaling than Strength.
  • Its blade flips open for heavy and charged heavy attacks, giving those swings much more reach than its short ordinary cuts. You do not have to spend FP or use a skill to extend it for the heavy attack.
  • The charged heavy is a single hit, rather than the usual two-hit charged cut of many curved swords. That changes how quickly it builds successive-hit bonuses such as Winged Sword Insignia.
  • Has no native Blood Loss buildup, despite the Cemetery Shade causing bleeding with its own attacks. Add a compatible affinity or weapon buff if you want an ailment; killing the Shade does not transfer its other abilities to the blade.
  • Starts with Spinning Slash and can use compatible Ashes of War. Heavy affinity favors Strength, while Keen favors Dexterity; another affinity can change the scaling and damage types again.
  • Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs. Standard, Heavy, Keen and Quality are the usual physical options for that setup.
  • Upgrade it with Smithing Stones to +25. Its critical rating is the normal 100, so the long heavy attack is its distinctive feature rather than an unusually strong critical modifier.
  • The Shade near the second chariot gives one guaranteed copy on its first defeat. Repeated kills in the same journey do not provide an unlimited supply of this weapon.
