Starting Site of Grace: Gatefront

  1. From Church of Elleh, follow the road north through the woodland to the soldier camp at Gatefront Ruins. Activate Gatefront grace beside the huge gate on the northwestern edge of the ruins.
  2. Go southeast into the camp. Pull enemies away from the horn-carrying soldier before fighting the larger groups, or deal with the horn bearer before it calls the camp to you.
  3. Find the heavily armored knight with a greatshield and long spear on the camp's central road. This is the knight farm; the ordinary surcoat soldiers drop a different outfit.
  4. Defeat this spear-and-greatshield knight and collect its drops. Partisan is a random weapon reward, separate from the armor and greatshield.
  5. Rest at Gatefront and repeat if needed. Margit and Godrick are unnecessary, and the smaller ordinary spear soldiers do not supply this knight weapon.

Notes

  • With Standard affinity, physical damage scales most strongly with Strength, with weaker Dexterity scaling.
  • Upgrade it with Smithing Stones. Its maximum upgrade is +25.
  • Can use compatible Ashes of War. Your choice of skill and the whetblades you've found determine which affinities you can apply.
  • Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs.
  • Requires 15 Strength and 12 Dexterity and weighs 6.5. Strength is its stronger Standard attribute, while the broad blade does not give it innate Blood Loss.
  • Its heavy attacks sweep across rather than using only straight thrusts. These Slash contacts help cover enemies beside you, but do not receive the Pierce counterhit benefit of its thrusting attacks.
  • Starts with Impaling Thrust for 9 FP. The guard-penetrating skill remains a thrust even though the ordinary heavy attack sweeps.
  • It can poke from behind a shield, giving it a choice between narrow guarded thrusts and wider unguarded heavy attacks. Both blocking and attacking require stamina.
  • The base drop chance is 4% at 100 Item Discovery from eligible Partisan-carrying knights. A knight carrying a greatsword has a different weapon drop.
  • Gatefront provides an early repeatable carrier. The knight's greatshield and armor roll separately, and the carriage chests do not contain Partisan.
