Where to find
Limgrave
Starting Site of Grace: Liftside Chamber
Before you go
- Reach Stormveil Castle's main courtyard.
- From Liftside Chamber, enter the main courtyard and look for Exile Soldiers carrying spears. These are the red-clothed castle soldiers, rather than the large armored knights.
- Defeat the spear carriers and check their drops. Rest at the grace and repeat if needed.
Limgrave
Starting Site of Grace: Murkwater Cave
Before you go
- This option requires killing Patches and ends his remaining quest rewards.
- Follow the stream north from Agheel Lake and enter Murkwater Cave in the western cliff. Continue through the cave to Patches' room and open the chest to trigger his fight.
- At the end of the cave, enter the side chamber and open the chest to begin Patches' encounter. If you want to preserve his quest, stop attacking when he surrenders and use the Exile farm for Spear instead.
- For this kill option, defeat Patches and collect his +7 Spear with his other drops. The weapon arrives pre-upgraded; it is not given merely for sparing him.
Notes
- With Standard affinity, physical damage scales most strongly with Dexterity, with weaker Strength scaling.
- Upgrade it with Smithing Stones. Its maximum upgrade is +25.
- Can use compatible Ashes of War. Your choice of skill and the whetblades you've found determine which affinities you can apply.
- Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs.
- Requires 12 Strength and 15 Dexterity and weighs 4.5. Dexterity is its stronger Standard attribute.
- Starts with Impaling Thrust for 9 FP. The skill gets through most of a raised guard's protection, but can still be parried.
- Its ordinary thrusts can be used from behind a raised shield. Keep enough stamina for the enemy's response rather than attacking until the bar is empty.
- Exile Soldiers carrying spears have a 2% base drop chance at 100 Item Discovery. Sword and crossbow Exiles have different drops.
- Patches drops a pre-upgraded +7 copy if killed. That ends his quest and removes later rewards that depend on him, including his Manor contract and Magma Whip Candlestick progression.
- Receiving a +7 weapon can raise the highest reinforcement level recorded for multiplayer matching. Putting it in storage or selling it does not undo having received it.
- The repeatable Exile farm lets you keep Patches alive. The ordinary Spear has no innate bleed, Poison or other status effect.
